Referencing: APA referencing

Elements of a reference

APA referencing can be broken down into 4 parts:

Author – who created the work Date – when the work was published
Title – what the work is called Source – where others can retrieve the work

Reference Lists

About reference lists

A Reference List is a list of all the sources you have cited or directly quoted within your assignment. No additional items may be included.

APA format rules

  • Reference Lists should be at the end of the assignment on a separate page titled ‘References.’
  • It should be arranged alphabetically by author.
  • Use double line-spacing between entries.
  • Second and subsequent lines of references must be indented approx. 1.271 cm or 4-5 spaces.
  • If there is more than one entry for the same author, list entries by year with the earliest first.
  • If there is more than one entry for the same author and year, list entries alphabetically by title, and add a lower case letter to each year: ‘a’ for the first, ‘b’ for the second, etc.

  • Resource type is shown in [bold].  Do not include in your reference list.

AI Art

AI Art should not be used in assessments because you cannot provide attribution of where the image has come from.  You can use Copilot to generate an image while studying, but you cannot copy and communicate the image (i.e. download the image and upload it into an assessment in MyLearning).
