NVDA Screen Reader for free

NVDA (Non Visual Desktop Access) is a free software available from NV Access. It will read your screen and is compatible with the libraries online platforms.

You can download it to your home device here: NV Access Download

Accessibility options on library resources online

ProQuest offers an accessibility mode which allows Ebooks to be read by screen reading software.

To activate Accessibility Mode follow the instructions below.

When searching in the EBSCO database for articles those with the HTML full text view have a built in read aloud function. See the help sheet below to see how to use it.

Microsoft Access

All Students are entitled to Microsoft 365 for free. You can download Microsoft Office onto your device by following the steps below. Info is also available on the MyLibrary homepage, just scroll to the bottom.

Once you've downloaded Office 365 you will find Word 365 has a function called the Immersive Reader tool.

It is a useful tool for students and teachers alike. Documents can be read out as well as grammar and spelling highlighted in an easy to understand way. See how it works from the instructions below.

Microsoft have many accessibility options. You can use the Read Aloud function in the Microsoft Edge browser to have any webpage read out to you. Just follow the instructions below
