A case study is a recoding of a real-life event. They can be centred on a person, an event, or a project. When your assignment includes a case study, you will generally be expected to read over it closely.

A literature review is a summary of all the relevant published scholarly literature (such a journal articles) on a given topic. They are a good way to demonstrate understanding of the topic, as well as helping to identify where there might be gaps in the research.
